DuPont Sustainable Solutions Looks At The New Face of Harassment

Virginia Beach, VA – May 10, 2010 – DuPont Sustainable Solutions recently released Harassment: A New Look, a program that helps organizations recognize and avoid the recent manifestations of workplace harassment.

Harassment: A New Look examines the devastating impact of workplace bullying and intimidation, joking, cyber bullying, sexting, and even discrimination against younger employees by older colleagues. It examines these issues vis-à-vis the basic concepts of harassment, particularly quid pro quo, the reasonable person standard, and the hostile work environment.

The program discusses the particularly vicious phenomenon of workplace bullying, alarming stories of which are on the rise. Statistics from the Workplace Bullying Institute already indicate a frightening scenario and stress the pervasiveness of the problem, compounded by considerable management neglect.

Most significantly, workplace bullying, along with the other novel forms of harassment is not necessarily covered by Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which forbids discrimination based on a person’s race, color, religion, sex and national origin. The new program reveals that harassment can and does occur outside these legally “protected categories,” a reality that organizations today must face and cope with.

They share personal experiences to show and speak about concrete examples of harassment’s new face.
